Potlight Hole Repair

Removing, relocating, or upgrading recessed pot lights almost always leaves behind a round hole in the ceiling — and it is a deceptively specialty repair. The drywall, the ceiling texture (often popcorn or knockdown), and the paint sheen all have to match perfectly, because raking light from a window or a neighbouring pot light will expose any inconsistency in texture or sheen far more readily than it would on a wall.

We start with a properly sized, backed patch rather than simply filling the opening with compound, since an unsupported patch is prone to cracking later. Joint compound is applied in multiple coats and feathered wide around the hole to avoid a visible "halo" ring, then the texture is matched and spray-applied to blend with the surrounding ceiling. For a truly invisible result, we often recommend a full ceiling repaint rather than a spot touch-up, since ceiling paint sheen can shift subtly over time and make even a well-matched patch visible under certain light. We will always tell you honestly whether a spot repair is likely to hold up or whether a full repaint is the safer call.
