Fine-Finish & Millwork Spraying

Fine-finish spraying is the right process when architectural woodwork needs to read as one continuous, manufactured surface. Sigma Painting prepares and sprays custom millwork across Toronto and the GTA, including built-ins, wall panelling, wainscoting, doors, trim packages, coffered ceilings, and detailed MDF assemblies. The specification changes with the substrate, the existing finish, the required sheen, and whether the work can be completed before or after installation.

MDF edges need to be sealed and sanded differently from the face. Poplar and maple need a primer and finish schedule that controls grain raise without burying profiles. Previously finished wood needs an adhesion assessment before it is sanded, cleaned, and primed. Oak can be finished with visible grain or filled for a smoother painted result. We confirm the intended appearance on a sample before applying the full system.

On-site spraying depends on containment. Floors, glass, stone, hardware, fixtures, cabinetry, and adjoining rooms are masked before equipment enters the work area. Air movement and overspray are controlled, and access is planned so the finish can cure without other trades or occupants disturbing it. Off-site finishing can be more efficient for removable doors, drawer fronts, and smaller components, while fixed panelling and built-ins are normally sprayed in place.

Spraying is not automatically better than brushing. It is better when a uniform film and consistent sheen are the priority, particularly across large trim packages and repeated profiles. Hand application remains useful for touch-ups, site-sensitive areas, and finishes that are designed to show the movement of the brush. We set the method from the design intent rather than applying one technique to every surface.
