Designer specifications rarely stay inside one paint brand. A scheme may call for a Farrow & Ball wall colour, a Benjamin Moore trim enamel, and a sprayed cabinet lacquer — all reading as one coordinated palette. Custom tinting and colour matching is the discipline that makes that work: matching a specified colour into the product that is technically right for each surface, then proving it on a sample before production.
A colour name is not a colour. The same chip reads differently across products, sheens, and substrates — a colour matched into a matte wall paint, a satin trim enamel, and a sprayed cabinet finish are three different formulations that must be checked against each other in the room's actual light. We approve drawdowns and sample boards side by side rather than trusting a dispensing formula alone.
Matching also covers the colours that no longer exist on a shelf: heritage colours on century-home trim, discontinued lines, a client's fabric or tile reference, or an existing wall that needs an invisible touch-up boundary. Where an exact match to an aged surface is impossible, we say so and define the repaint boundary honestly instead of promising an invisible patch.
Custom tinting supports our interior painting, millwork spraying and Farrow & Ball application work across Toronto and the GTA, and every approved colour is recorded in the project file so future touch-ups start from the right formula.
We can match the colour closely in another product when the project calls for it — but a match reproduces the tint, not the character. Farrow & Ball finishes have their own depth and texture, so where the brand is part of the design intent we recommend applying the genuine product and matching adjacent surfaces to it instead.
Yes. We match from physical references — fabric, stone, tile, cabinetry, or an existing painted surface — and confirm the result with a drawdown in the room's light. Aged or faded surfaces are matched as closely as the surface allows, with an honest repaint boundary where an invisible patch is not achievable.
Sheen, product chemistry, substrate, and lighting all shift how a colour reads. A satin trim enamel reflects more light than a matte wall beside it, so the identical formula can appear a shade different. We align formulations and sheens deliberately, and approve them together in place.
